Deposit books open for new Toyota Supra

The all-new Toyota Supra has been a long time coming, but wannabe UK owners can get a step closer to the wheel – with deposits now being taken.

Just 300 examples of the Japanese sports car are destined to arrive in the UK during 2019, and people can now book their place in the queue with a £1,000 down payment.

Reservations can be placed online or at a Toyota dealership, and the deposit is refundable should a customer change their mind. Although initial build slots are limited, those who are a little late to the party will be put on a waiting list – either moving up if earlier-placed deposits are cancelled or offered a car at a later date.

Shown only in prototype guise so far, full specifications for the Supra have yet to be confirmed, but Toyota says the rear-driven machine will boast ‘in excess of 300bhp’ from its six-cylinder engine. It will be based on the same architecture as the all-new BMW Z4, with both sports cars developed jointly by the German and Japanese manufacturers.

Order books will open fully in the new year, with customers able to spec the Supra to their liking following a full reveal of the car at the Detroit Motor Show in January. There’s no word yet on exact delivery dates, but expect it to retail at a similar cost to the range-topping BMW Z4 M40i’s £49,050.
