Volvo V60 gains a rugged edge with Cross Country
New trim for the compact executive estate adds off-road functionality with looks to match

Volvo has given its V60 range a fresh injection of ruggedness with a new trim — Cross Country.
Already available on the larger V90 as well as the V40 hatch, the compact executive estate is the latest machine to benefit from the variation, which brings go-anywhere ability and looks to match.

With some chassis and suspension tweaks made, the Cross Country rides 75mm higher than the base V60 — allowing for greater ground clearance. Its 2.0-litre ‘D4’ diesel engine sends its 187bhp and 400Nm to all four wheels for optimal grip in tough conditions.
On top of that, the V60 also gets a fair helping of standard technology — including Hill Descent Control, autonomous emergency braking and a new, off-road driving mode.
The V60 Cross Country retains the classy profile of the standard machine, but some aesthetic touches indicate its go-anywhere ability — namely plastic cladding all around the car.
Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars, said: “With the new V60 Cross Country, we take our Swedish family estate from one natural habitat to another.

“We invented the Cross Country segment over 20 years ago, and with this car we reinforce our long-standing pedigree in safe, capable and versatile family cars.”
Volvo has confirmed mild-hybrid and plug-in powertrains will join the options list alongside the D4 diesel engine later in the model’s life. Pricing and full specifications for the Volvo V60 Cross Country have yet to be confirmed.
