Daihatsu driver makes incredible Nürburgring save
Footage has captured the moment one Daihatsu owner prevented an accident in spectacular fashion
The Nürburgring is notorious for claiming the cars of many an overly-confident driver — but one masterful Daihatsu Cuore owner managed to avoid becoming the latest victim of the ‘Green Hell’ in quite some fashion.
Footage from the Brünnchen corner of the gruelling 12.9-mile circuit has captured the moment the hatchback finds itself with all four wheels off the ground after riding high on a kerb, before landing at quite an angle on just two of them.
The Daihatsu then appears to skip across the tarmac, nearly touching the surface with its left wing mirror.
Onlookers must have been expecting to witness a catastrophic accident — but somehow the driver recovered it. A touch of opposite lock sees the little car’s wheels brought back down to earth, with some hard braking ensuring it didn’t even leave the tarmac.
The surrounding crowd can be heard giving the Cuore driver a deserved round of applause — who appears to continue on as if nothing ever happened.
It’s not clear how fast the driver was going, but perhaps they were looking to chase the Nürburgring lap record set earlier this year by Porsche with its 919 Evo — a staggering time of 5:19.55.
That’s probably a stretch for the tiny Japanese hatchback to match, but it’d certainly be a cheaper way to go fast around the German racetrack — with a good Cuore available for around £1k on the used market.
