Mercedes-AMG has refreshed the C63, and the updated machine is now on sale — with prices starting at £66,429.

Although tweaks may seem minor at a first glance, this is a fairly notable update, with a new gearbox, revised appearance and more driver-focused tech as standard helping to breathe new life into the performance model.

Gone is the seven-speed automatic gearbox of the outgoing car, now replaced with a nine-speed unit — which Mercedes-AMG claims offers shorter shift times.

The 4.0-litre BiTurbo V8 engine remains untouched in all C63 variants, still producing 469bhp in the regular car and 503bhp in ‘S’ variants.

AMG Ride Control with adaptive dampers and an electronic limited-slip differential also now comes as standard across the C63 range, having previously been reserved for the options list and the top-spec ‘S’ model. This tech allows the driver to tailor the performance monster’s suspension for different driving scenarios, such as stiffening up in more spirited driving for better agility or softening the dampers for a more relaxed cruise.

Other standard equipment for the C63 includes 18-inch alloys wheels, a performance exhaust, LED headlights, keyless start and a 10.25-inch infotainment display.

S models build on that with nine-stage traction control, AMG performance seats and 19-inch alloy wheels included for no extra cost.

Two equipment packs are also available. The first is Premium Plus, which brings a Burmester surround sound system, a 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof and the keyless-go comfort package. It’s priced at £2,595 for all variants except the Cabriolet, which does without the panoramic roof.

Finally, the £1,695 Driving Assistance package adds blind spot assistance, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, Pre-Safe Plus and Distronic Plus.

Aesthetic changes are minor, with the only real difference coming in the form of a new multi-slot front grille.

The updated Mercedes-AMG C63 is available now in saloon, estate, coupe and cabriolet forms.
