Electrification has made its way to the new Porsche Cayenne, with a plug-in hybrid model now available on the performance-focused SUV.

This is the Cayenne E-Hybrid, the latest battery-assisted machine to come from Stuttgart, which is available to order now. It’s powered by a 3.0-litre V6 engine that by itself can output 335bhp but when here paired up with the electric motor, there’s a total of 456bhp on offer.

The capacity of the battery is up by around 30 per cent from the previous generation’s plug-in option — now at 14.1kWh from 10.4. It can be fully charged at a regular plug socket in just shy of eight hours, although fast-charging can cut this to a little over two.

Porsche is also working on a service that will allow Cayenne E-Hybrid users to pay for on-the-road charging through its app, rather than registering with individual providers to ‘fill up’ — although a release date for this service has yet to be confirmed.

It’s not just the powertrain that’s new to this generation of the SUV, though. Now available across the range is a head-up display — a first for the brand — while new 22-inch alloy wheels, massaging seats and a heated windscreen now also feature on the options list.
