McLaren Senna spotted on UK roads for the first time
British supercar manufacturer’s upcoming track-focused machine has been spied on UK roads, provoking a mixed reaction across social media

The upcoming McLaren Senna supercar has been spotted on UK roads for the first time, ahead of customer deliveries later this year.
Photos shared on Twitter by user @hantsphoto show the track-focused machine parked at an undisclosed petrol station, sporting a black paint finish with tape on the front bumper, as well as the absence of a McLaren badge on the bonnet.
The post accompanying the photos said: “How’s this for a Wednesday afternoon spot then?! #Mclaren #Senna on the road!”
It received a lot of positive reaction, with user @McLarenFamily describing it as “Superb!”, while @gcMC4E proclaimed: “Loveeeeeee itttt!!!”
Others took a negative stance, though. User @RteMarvelde said: “Wish they had saved the Senna name for a prettier car….” while @idrisfawlty commented: “Looks worse than I thought!”
An hour later, user @anytimespy shared more photographs of the car, which they spied on the M25, along with “Saw batman on his way to work”.
Speaking to the Press Association, a spokesperson for McLaren said: “We are always interested to see what people say about our cars, whether that be customers, the media or the public.
“It comes as little surprise that the Senna drew such interest when it was out on the roads.
“There are a small number of prototype vehicles in testing, so cars will probably be seen out on the roads again.”
This is the first time the British-built supercar has been spotted on public roads following its reveal in December.
Named after legendary three-times Formula One world championship winner Ayrton Senna, who was killed in May 1994 when his car crashed into a concrete barrier while he was leading the San Marino Grand Prix, the extreme vehicle is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine developing 789bhp, with the total package weighing 1,198kg — just 10kg more than a Ford Fiesta. This means a power-to-weight ratio of 659bhp per tonne.
Just 500 examples of the McLaren Senna will be built, with a starting price of £750,000 — and all of them have already been sold. The first customer deliveries are expected towards the end of 2018.
