Hyundai expands i30 range with new Fastback
Third body variant to join i30 line-up
Hyundai has unveiled the i30 Fastback – the third body style in the i30 range.
Following the hatchback and i30 Tourer, the Fastback is a five-door car with a sloped rear design which the South Korean manufacturer says, “has a sophisticated silhouette featuring typical dynamic sports coupe proportions.”
The design includes a lower grille compared to others in the i30 range, designed with the intention of giving the Fastback a wider visual impact with more emphasis on the bonnet. A more muscular appearance is also created with an angled lowered front spoiler.
Safety features include autonomous emergency braking, high beam and lane keeping assists. Advanced smart cruise control is included too, which automatically keeps pace with traffic, up to speeds of 112mph.
Inside, there’s an optional infotainment system that features both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing users to connect their phones seamlessly.
As for what’s underneath the bonnet, there are two engine options available at launch, both previously featuring in the i30 range. There’s a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine producing 118bhp with a targeted 56mpg and 115g/km CO2 emissions, which is exclusively offered with a six-speed manual transmission.
There’s also a more powerful 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, capable of developing 138bhp with economy targets of 51mpg and 125g/km CO2 emissions. Two transmission options are available for this engine, either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual clutch automatic.
In future, the i30 Fastback’s engine choices will be expanded to include a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that will be available with two power outputs — either 108bhp or 134bhp. The diesel engine will also have both transmissions on offer.
