Valkyrie name confirmed for highly anticipated Aston Martin hypercar
Ground-breaking model produced in collaboration with Red Bull Racing gets its name from Norse mythology.
Aston Martin’s exciting new hypercar will be called Valkyrie, a name chosen from Norse mythology.
The collaboration between Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing, previously identified by its codename AM-RB 001, uses a mid-mounted V12 engine that is expected to make up to 1,000bhp.

Mark Reichman, chief creative officer at Aston Martin, said: “The Aston Martin Valkyrie is an incredibly special car that demands an equally remarkable name; an uncompromising car that leaves nothing in reserve.
“The connotations of power and honour, of being chosen by the Gods, are so evocative, and so pertinent to a car that only a fortunate few will ever experience.”
The Valkyrie were female figures in Norse mythology who selected who lived and died in battle before taking half of the dead to Valhalla, the afterlife ruled over by Odin, Ruler of the Gods.
Built around a lightweight carbon-fibre structure, the hypercar of the same name utilises underfloor aerodynamics to create high levels of downforce without the need for wings or other aero devices on top of the car.
Adrian Newey, chief technical officer of Red Bull Racing, who made a name for himself as an aerodynamicist in Formula 1, is behind the effective but elegant design.
Speaking at the launch of the car in July last year, he said: “Having great technical partners such as those working with us is both reassuring and motivating. Together we aim to produce an innovative piece of engineering art.”

Just 150 road cars will be built, with 25 more made for track use only. Each is expected to cost in excess of £2 million when they go on sale in 2019.
