Shropshire driver takes fifth British title

Ludlow driver Scott Moran has been crowned British Hill Climb Champion for the fifth time after the Doune meeting in Scotland and will treat this weekend's event at Loton Park, near Shrewsbury as a celebration of his success and a tribute to his father Roger, champion in 1997, who is retiring from the large capacity racing car class after many years.

Competition will however be fierce from other drivers from across the country who are still fighting for podium places and final positions in a host of class championships for sports, classics, saloons and racing cars.

As the last event of the hill climbing calendar, Loton Park will host a 'Festival' atmosphere with a barbeque for officials and competitors on Saturday evening after practice and qualifying, before the serious timed competition runs take place on Sunday.

Sponsors for the weekend are Rybrook Mini of Shrewsbury, who are hosting a breakfast reception at their Featherbed Lane showrooms for customers, before setting off in a cavalcade of 50 Minis for Loton Park.

Marketing manager Kate Taylor said: "We are delighted to be supporting the British Championship event at Loton Park and will be travelling in convoy with our guests, headed by our very latest and striking orange facelift Mini."

Martyn Silcox, secretary of event organising Hagley Car Club, added: "The fact that our own local driver Scott Moran has clinched the title will not deter the rest of the capacity entry from trying to finish this splendid season off in fine style and we are looking forward to hosting a very special event indeed."
