Greenhous back tough charity challenge
Three peaks are better than one!
Some people have a passion for walking, some for climbing. Some people are satisfied with scaling local hills or perhaps even the mighty Snowdon, but not Glenn Notley from Telford. He believes in pushing the limits and organises an annual charity walk up three peaks in Yorkshire all within 12 hours!
Glenn is the general manager of Brinkman (Horticultural Service) UK Ltd, based in Beverley, East Yorkshire. He is a valued customer of Greenhous Volvo Shrewsbury and has a V40 and S60 model which he uses to travel the country. Steve Rowson, operations manager for Greenhous Volvo, was impressed with Glenn's passion for the cause. "Glenn is a businessman with an appetite for an outdoor challenge, and his enthusiasm is infectious. The company was delighted to donate to the charities he and the group are raising funds for."
This year saw the fourth Yorkshire Three Peaks organised walk. It is a 25 mile circular walk beginning and ending in Horton In Ribblesdale in the Yorkshire Dales and encompassing the Three hills of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough giving a total of circa 7,000 feet of climbing – roughly equivalent to climbing the Wrekin from bottom to top 13 times and walking from Telford to Shrewsbury and back – all in under 12 hours.
Glenn explained who participated and why. "This year 30 people took on the challenge and everyone completed it successfully – including 14-year-old Toby Adams and I am hoping we will raise in the region of £14,000 for the charities The Midlands Air Ambulance, Breast Cancer UK and Sarcoma UK. We will look to start putting together a new group for Three Peaks 2015 later this year."
Petrie McIntyre, Glenn's partner, was delighted that each year so many people join the group. "We receive so many enquiries and then start with weekends where we offer walks of increasing difficulty so that participants are aware of what they are letting themselves into. It is a very demanding venture, but the rewards are tremendous and we raise so much money for good causes."
