Crews battle car fire in Telford underpass

Smoke poured from an underpass in Telford as crews battled to put out a car on fire in the early hours of the morning.

Fire appliances were sent into a tunnel in Leegomery just after 1am yesterday after it was reported a car had been set alight.

Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service sent two fire engines from Wellington and an operations officer along with members of Green Watch Wellington.

Fire crews used breathing apparatus while entering the tunnel and a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire.

The vehicle was left completely gutted and the tunnel with fire damage throughout.

On the day of the incident, Amber Watch Wellington posted on social media: "At 01.10 this morning crews along with their colleagues from Green Watch Wellington were called to reports of a car on fire in a underpass in Leegomery.

"Upon arrival it was discovered that a car was fully involved on fire and fire fighters quickly got to work dealing with incident using breathing apparatus and hosereel jets to extinguish the fire.

"Any info on this incident please call the police on 101."
