Ludlow charity arts space calls out loud to community

A studio that puts on creative activities for people of all abilities is calling for more volunteers – and more people from the local community to get more involved in general.

Loudwater Studio, on the Burway Trading Estate in Ludlow, has secured funding from Shropshire Housing Group to help the studio engage more of the community and also to develop a new creative enterprise initiative for adults with learning disabilities to enjoy.

Loudwater’s business development manager Nikki Hook said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us. Loudwater has always been very much a community space but despite us being here for over 15 years many people in the local area think the studio is not for them.

"The studio offers opportunities to people to engage in all kinds of creative activities, including working with textiles, children’s activities, painting, drawing and sculpture. We also have our own kiln, working with clay is always popular, we simply need people to come and join the fun.

"Funding is vital to the work we do and we’re thrilled to have support from Shropshire Housing Group which means not only will we be able to keep offering this fabulous creative space to the local community, but also develop new groups for vulnerable adults to develop their creative and entrepreneurial skills which will commence in September, providing them with an opportunity to contribute to society in a way not normally offered.

"Without this help we really wouldn’t have been able to get this project off the ground.

"The studio is very keen to engage the local community in all kinds of ways, whether you’re an artist looking for a creative space to work, have always wanted to learn a new creative skill but didn’t know where to turn, want to support people who you think would benefit from using the studio or know an adult with learning disabilities who would like to join one of the new groups.

"We’re also really keen to engage volunteers to help us with our work, as the more hands we have the more we can do. The creative culture of Ludlow is amazing, and we have lots of opportunities available to engage everyone’s abilities. Studio time can be offered in return for volunteering time so this could be the perfect opportunity for anyone looking for somewhere to be creative."
