Woman taken to hospital after Shrewsbury River Severn incident

A woman was taken to hospital after ending up in the River Severn in Shrewsbury.

Fire crews were called to rescue the woman in the town centre on Sunday evening but she was out of the water before they arrived.

Paramedics treated her and she was taken to hospital with minor injures.

Three appliances were mobilised from the town's fire station along with an ambulance and a paramedic from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The emergency crews were sent to the Kingsland Bridge to reports of a woman in the river at 9.23pm.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a patient in the water near to Kingsland Bridge at 9.25pm yesterday, one ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a woman, who once was out, was treated for minor injuries and taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital."

The fire service incident stop message was sent at 9.41pm.
