40 tonnes of waste catches fire at Ellesmere builders' merchants

Three fire engines were scrambled to Ellesmere after 40 tonnes of waste material caught fire at a builder's merchants.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was alerted to a blaze at Tudor Griffiths in Wood Lane, Whitemere at around 1.34pm on Friday .

Fire crews from Baschurch, Ellesmere and Wem used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire described as "40 tonnes of general waste and plastic".

The blaze was extinguished and the situation under control by 1.56pm.
