The creator of the Knife Angel monument, Alfie, from Oswestry, says he is struggling to fund his idea and has set up a fundraising page for people to donate to – gofundme.com/f/captain-sir-tom-moore-sculpture.

"I want to keep his legacy alive, and to inspire people to unite and keep strong," Alfie, 30, said.

"This will be such a great realistic piece using a very interesting new technique that I know will look fantastic. I want to combine my sculpting and my painting talents and plan to create a piece between three and four metres high.

"All the names of people that have donated and helped with the project will be on a sign next to the piece. I am also hoping businesses will get behind me to sponsor or provide materials."

"Sir Tom was a symbol of the national coming together to fight through difficult times."

He said he had not yet thought about where the sculpture could sit but hoped people would come forward with ideas.
