Woman, 86, dies after crash near Oswestry

An 86-year old woman seriously injured in a crash near Oswestry has died.

The woman was a passenger in a car that was involved in a collision with a van outside the Bridge Inn pub on Chirk Bank in Oswestry on the evening of Sunday, September 9.

Police said today that the woman had died as a result of her injuries. They have renewed an appeal for witnesses.

The crash happened at about 8.30pm when a white Peugeot Partner van collided with a blue Volkswagen Passat.

A spokesman for West Mercia police said: "Sadly a passenger in the Volkswagen Passat, an 86-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital but later died as a result of her injuries.

"The driver of the car, a 58-year-old man, and two other passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

"The driver of the van, a 42-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital."

A 42-year-old man is assisting police with their investigation.

"Enquiries are ongoing but officers are keen to speak with anyone who saw the incident or who saw the vehicles and the manner in which they were being driven prior to the collision," the spokesman said.
