Contractors are due to move onto the Whittington roundabout on the bypass on Monday to carry out improvement works.

Signs on the approach to the junction with the A495 say the work could last up to three weeks.

It is the last of a series of major works on the road. Motorists have been beset by road closures, traffic lights and signals on the bypass for the last three months

The roadworks began in the spring with the installation of traffic lights on the A483 Maesbury road staggered junction. Then last week contractors started work at the Mile End roundabout where the A5 joins the A483 running as one road to the Welsh border.

The work is part of a £9.3 million project to improve roads for new homes being built.

It has been funded by the Government’s new housing financial pot.

The Western Shropshire Interchange Improvements – Unlocking the Marches Gateway for Housing & Employment Growth – will allow Oswestry’s southern urban extension to go ahead, with about 750 houses planned.

A new roundabout on the Shrewsbury Road going into Oswestry, will be built to provide an access into the new developments.

There will also be a footbridge built from the housing land over the Oswestry bypass on to land designated to become an employment park.
