Vintage camping in Shropshire
It is like taking a step back into the past.
Take your tent, camper or caravan to Abbey Green Farm in the beautiful north Shropshire countryside and after setting up, sit down to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea at your pitch.
Start the day with a home made bacon and egg roll, then maybe hire a 1940s bike to cycle down the nearby lanes and canal towpaths.
The vintage theme of Abbey Green Farm at Whixall has won it the accolade of being among the Top 40 campsites in the UK, according to the Sunday Times.
Owners, Philip and Rose Rodenhurst were thrilled to be chosen.
Their farmhouse and campsite was once Rose's family home and she says she has wonderful memories of growing up there.
Years later they bought the property from the new owners.
"We have done a lot of work and we now have a boutique campsite with 12 pitches all with separate bays," she said.
"Our visitors really like the vintage theme, from the bone china we use for the afternoon teas to the 1940s bikes for hire."
"A lot of people enjoy exploring the local area and further afield while others simply like to unwind at the campsite and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the English countryside.
"We are very close to the canal and some visitors also enjoy a trip on a narrowboat."
Abbey Green also offers bed and breakfast in the farmhouse and a lodge.
