Cows rescued from Powys slurry pit

Firefighters had to work to rescue three dairy cows that had become stuck in an underground slurry pit.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue crews from Newtown and Montgomery were deployed incident at a farm in Mellington, near Churchstoke, today.

Emergency services responded to what was described as a large animal rescue shortly after 6am.

The operation took several hours, but Montgomery Fire Station reported on Twitter that all three cows had survived, describing the rescue as 'great work'.
