Suspension of midwife unit
Services at Ludlow and Bridgnorth Midwife-Led Units have been temporarily suspended from 8pm tonight until 8am tomorrow.
It is the latest overnight closure of midwife led units in Shropshire. Services at Bridgnorth and Oswestry were suspended over the bank holiday.
Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust said it was due to staff sickness affecting the Consultant-Led Unit and Wrekin MLU at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, meaning staff need to be redeployed to maintain safe staffing levels.
Anthea Gregory-Page, Deputy Head of Midwifery said: “Unfortunately due to staff sickness within our Maternity Service we are temporarily suspending services at Bridgnorth and Ludlow from 8pm tonight until 8am tomorrow. I would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
“We are contacting women who have chosen to deliver at Bridgnorth and Ludlow and who are due to give birth in the near future to inform them and offer an alternative location to give birth if they go into labour whilst services are suspended. Women who required support would be able to access a midwife.”
