Training could save a life
Defibrillators, the life saving heart-start machines, are being put up on more and more public buildings. But how many people would be confident to use them in an emergency.
Oswestry Cambrian Rotary club is working with the British Heart Foundation “Heart Start” course and Community Service Responders to deliver training courses in the area and have purchased three special training machines.
Spokesman, Mike Lade, said: We offer courses in Basic Life Saving skills and the latest feed-back was that it would be very useful to actually get hands-on practice in applying the defibrillator pads and hear the commands given by the machine. These generic trainers are fairly new to the market but will add that new and vital dimension to the delivery of the two hour course.
"Recent studies have shown that people may be reluctant to use a defibrillator because they are afraid they might harm the casualty. The Automated External Defibrillators in the boxes on the walls in Oswestry and villages around Oswestry are very sophisticated electronic devices and you cannot do any harm to a casualty as you cannot do anything the electronics and the inboard computer does not instruct the user to do.
"If any group of people, no matter what age, would like to be trained in the life saving skills and how to use an AED in the new year then please get in touch on 01691 650854 or info@oswestrycambrianrc.co.uk. www.oswestrycambrianrc.co.uk.
