Spectators flocked to the shearing stand at Burwarton Showground to see some of the area's best young shearers in action in five competitions. Over 20 competitors from Shropshire and neighbouring counties took to the stage and battled it out to shear in the fastest time, as well as the most accurately. There was a fun round which consisted of racing against the clock to drink a pint of cider, eat a pie and shear a lamb.

Catherine Faulkner of Shropshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs said: "The event saw some exciting and extremely close competition between some of Shropshire YFC's members including Joe Williams, Will Dale and Chris Potter with them all making it as far as the final rounds.

"In the end, however, it was the two brothers from Herefordshire who stole the show - Chris and Steven Rowberry. Steven managed an impressive time of 30 seconds but it was Chris who threw caution to the wind, taking the winning title of the night at 29.2 seconds."

Becky Green, SFYFC chairman, said: "It was great to see the tent filled with spectators and enjoy such a show. The event was a great success. Thank you to all who supported it in any way, particularly our sponsors."

Over £1,500 was raised for charity, in aid of Oak Farm for adults with learning disabilities, Breast Cancer Care, Midlands Air Ambulance and Rupert's Revenge.

"Many thanks to Hayden Woolley for supplying the sheep and Burwarton Show for providing the use of the marquee and shearing stand."

The sheep shearing competition was held the day after Burwarton Show.
