ersonal service is key for Shropshire arable farmer Paul Everall who has launched a new tractor hire firm at Montford Bridge, near Shrewsbury.

The business - Severn Tractor Hire, named after the River Severn which flows around the farm - operates from Forton House, in the heart of Shropshire farming country, where Paul and his father Chris farm 300 acres.

The firm will have a fleet of around 30 John Deere tractors from 80-350hp plus additional farm equipment as required by customers.

"I see personal service as the key to the success of Severn Tractor Hire,"says Paul who has previously worked in tractor hire for a local plant hire company and also in sales for Shropshire John Deere dealership, Rea Valley Tractors Limited. He is also joint director of the telehandler hire company, Shropshire Contract Hire.

"Being a working farmer myself I understand the needs of my customers. I know how vital it is to have the right equipment for the job at the time you need it."

Machinery costs are a major expense for farmers and agricultural contractors but more and more are recognising the savings and flexibility offered by tractor hire.

"We offer spot hire, contract hire and long-term hire and can strike a competitive deal that will give customers the best machine to do the work efficiently on the farm. Also we will offer a pay-as-you-go service where the farmer only pays for the hours he uses, whether it is weeks, months or even years, on a rolling contract."
