Dairy cattle for sale at auction
A herd of nearly 100 dairy cattle will be sold at auction on Friday, as another Shropshire farmer ceases milk production.
A herd of nearly 100 dairy cattle will be sold at auction on Friday, as another Shropshire farmer ceases milk production.
Leading Shropshire auctioneers Halls are conducting the sale at Hollowdene, Withington, near Shrewsbury, on behalf of Peter Jarvis, who is leaving the dairy industry after 24 years.
Mr Jarvis has bred half and bought in half of his dairy replacements to build a herd of predominantly young, good bodied cows.
The herd, which currently averages 7,978 litres with 3.71 per cent butterfat and 3.29 per cent protein, is all year calving and, due to land constraints at Hollowdene, the served heifers have been reared by neighbour Mr R. G. Jarvis on behalf of Messrs P. R. and K. Jarvis.
The sale starts at 10.30am, with an extensive range of surplus farm machinery, which includes three tractors, a JCB Farm Special loader, dairy equipment, implements and spares.
