A popular figure at Shrewsbury Livestock Market for more than 30 years is back on the auctioneer's rostrum.

David Edwards left his job at the old livestock market in Harlescott two years ago to focus on his 70-acre smallholding at Sarnau, near Welshpool, but has been persuaded by auctioneers Halls to return to the new Shrewsbury Auction Centre as weanlings auctioneer.

His return to the rostrum was greeted by spontaneous applause around the sale ring.

"Shrewsbury market has been a way of life for me for more than 30 years," explained Mr Edwards.

"Even though I haven't been working at the market, I have kept in touch."
