Reliability key at tractor firm
Having started out 22 years ago tractor driving, Adrian Marsh has established a highly successful and award-winning contracting firm based at Tern Hill, Market Drayton.
Adrian has bought more than 14 Fendt tractors from RVW Pugh Ltd since 2002 and now has four Fendt 716s in his yard, and two more on order. Adrian has also this year bought a Fendt 926 workhorse to complement his Fendt fleet for 2007 from Pugh's, the Powys-based Fendt dealership.
The contracting business takes Adrian and his drivers far and wide. In the winter he provides a salt spreading service on emergency call out, clearing supermarket car parks and council property as far afield as Nottingham and Burton on Trent in the east, Powys in the west and Wrexham in the north.
In the summer Adrian's business focuses on silaging, lime spreading, baling and drilling. He operates five Pšttinger silage wagons, using one or two on each job, and says the benefits of the these machines are underestimated.
The Pšttinger wagons produce long chop silage which is recommended by feed advisors for its nutritional benefits to animals.
The wagons are more flexible for smaller jobs; if a farmer has one field ready while the rest of the crop will be another week or so, Adrian and his team can go in and silage the field and go back to finish the job at a later date.
A smaller team is required for the silaging when using wagons - this is obviously labour saving (Pšttinger quote a 40 per cent labour saving, and Adrian is inclined to agree with them), and Adrian can also ensure that he uses his own trusted staff and doesn't have to bring in inexperienced drivers who may make the job less productive.
Reliability of the Fendt tractors is a top priority for Adrian, but so far he has had minimal problems since running Fendts, with only one breakdown over the last 10,000 hourss of work.
