The chairman of Shrewsbury Auction Centre has thanked both sellers and buyers for making the dairy section of the new state-of-the-art livestock market such a success.

David Giles, a director of Halls, said the support from farmers and buyers had ensured a good entry of quality cattle in the dairy section every Tuesday since the new market opened in March.

"Through the autumn period we are averaging over 40 head of dairy cattle per week, most of which are freshly calved and in full milk, but we also welcome young stock and bulls which have been sold to good advantage," he said.

"We can boast that many of the best breeders of dairy cattle in Shropshire and Powys, in particular, sell with us regularly, which gives great comfort to purchasers, who know that the quality in Shrewsbury is first rate."
