Crews from Baschurch, Church Stretton, Oswestry and Shrewsbury were all called out to deal with small blazes yesterday evening.

There were also two car fires – in Havenhills, near Telford, and Eardington, near Bridgnorth – which both took just under half an hour to bring under control.

Firefighters were first alerted to a chimney fire in a detached farmhouse, in Weston Lullingfields, near Baschurch, and took just under an hour-and-a-half to put the flames out.

A crew from Church Stretton later attended a scene in Cwmdale following an alert from a member of the public at 5.45pm, although no fire was found.

Firefighters from Oswestry attended a fire at 6.30pm when four square metres of grass were set alight, which took 20 minutes to put out.

A crew from Shrewsbury was called out to a rubbish fire, in Ditherington, and used a knapsack to extinguish it at 6.45pm.

A car was alight on a road in Havenhills, in Brockton, near Telford, at 8pm and firefighters used a two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to put out the fire.

A second car fire occurred in Halfway House Lane, Eardington, near Bridgnorth, just after 8.30pm.
