Motorist, 26, killed after car in crash with lorry in Much Wenlock

A 26-year-old driver has died after his car collided with a lorry in Shropshire. He was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the efforts of paramedics and an off-duty GP who stopped to help.

The accident happened on the A458 at Harley Bank, near Much Wenlock.

The road was closed for seven hours following the crash shortly after 1.30pm on Saturday while the scene was cleared. It is not yet known how the collision happened, and police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash or with information to get in touch.

No-one else was injured in the incident.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Crews were called to reports of a car and a lorry that had been in collision. On arrival at the scene crews immediately assessed the driver of the car.

"Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased at the scene."

He added two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and a rapid response vehicle, carrying a critical care paramedic and a trauma doctor, from the Midlands Air Ambulance base in Cosford had been sent to the scene.
