Van flattens lamp post and hits barrier near M54
A National Grid driver had a lucky escape when his van careered off the road and flattened a lamp post before smashing over a metal barrier near Telford.
The van came to rest at the top of a steep, wooded embankment leading down to the M54 just yards away.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene of the crash on the Shifnal and Priorslee roundabout, just off Junction 4 of the motorway, shortly before 2.30pm yesterday.

The van had left the road, mounted a grass verge, demolished a lamp post and road sign and then mounted metal barriers skirting the roundabout. It came to rest at the top of a wooded area.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Steve Parry said an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic were sent to the scene.
He said: "One patient was dealt with at the scene but he did not require hospital treatment. He had minor whiplash and was checked over by the paramedic."
Insp Emma Wright of West Mercia Police said officers and the ambulance service were alerted at 2.28pm. She said: "There was some damage to a lamppost which required the Highways Agency to attend, as well as eletrical engineers."
