Shropshire boarding school offering place to a refugee
A school in Shropshire has announced a plan to offer a fully-funded boarding place to a Syrian refugee, from the many families who have fled the civil war in Syria, which has displaced 12 million people from their homes.
Adcote School in Little Ness, near Shrewsbury, is offering a fully-funded place in coordination with the Boarding Schools Association, which has written to Prime Minister David Cameron offering to support a number of children in boarding schools across the country.
Headmaster Gary Wright said: "As a school we have a long tradition of helping pupils and families worldwide in offering a safe haven, as well as a first class education and pastoral support. For example, currently we have several Ukrainian pupils from the war-torn regions of their own country.
"I am delighted that we can assist, albeit in a small way, to take one refugee child entering the country as a full boarder here at the school.
"As an Anglican school, I feel that offering such support demonstrates to our pupils the principle of helping those less fortunate than ourselves."
