Top five spot for Shropshire college
Shropshire's international school has been ranked in the top five independent institutions in the country for its outstanding A-level results.
It is the fourth year running that Concord College in Acton Burnell, near Shrewsbury, has appeared in the top five in an Independent Schools Council national league table based on points per candidate.
Concord was also placed ninth in the Telegraph's league table for all schools, which is the highest position the college has achieved – making the top 10 for the first time.
In the Times Concord was ranked the fifth best co-educational school in the country. Both are based on the percentage of A*/A grades at A-level.
Principal Neil Hawkins said: "This is, of course, a wonderful accolade for Concord. But a high position in the league tables is not the goal of education.
"The goal is to enrich and to develop the young people in our care and to enable them to flourish. However, league table success does reflect the hard work and talent of our students and the commitment of teachers and support staff in creating an environment in which the very highest levels of success and achievement are possible.
"We believe this places us as the highest school not only in Shropshire but the West Midlands and indeed much further afield."
