Chester leads way in Shropshire university race
The University of Chester is leading the race to set up a new higher education establishment in Shropshire, it was revealed today.
It aims to create a new campus and is in talks with Shropshire Council to find a suitable site.
Council leader Keith Barrow said plans to establish a university campus to provide higher education within the county were "moving forwards".
It would be the first higher education provider in the Shropshire Council area – Telford & Wrekin has Harper Adams University and the University of Wolverhampton's campus at Priorslee.
Speaking at last night's Shropshire Business Summit in Shrewsbury, Mr Barrow said: "The provision of higher education is going to happen in Shropshire, it's just a matter of when.
"A lot of universities are interested. We have been doing a lot of work with Chester, and they have appointed members of staff to work on it. We are looking at where they could be based."
