A Shropshire college has appointed a new principal - seven months after his predecessor was suspended following a series of complaints.

Jonathan Davis has taken over at the helm of Ludlow College. He had been acting principal since Chris Conoley was suspended in March.

Mr Conoley resigned from his post in July citing "personal reasons", and details of a four-month investigation were never revealed.

In a statement released by the college's board of governors, Mr Davis was described as a "family man" and a "highly practiced communicator who listens and understands".

Mr Davis said: "I'm proud to be the principal of this excellent college with such historic links with the Ludlow community and area. Since arriving at Ludlow College I have been most impressed by the students."

Dr Ewart Carson, chairman of the board of governors at Ludlow College, said: "The governors appreciated all that Mr Davis has achieved as acting principal and look forward to working with him in the future."

Mr Davis moved to Ludlow College as assistant principal in September 2009. He had previously worked at a college in Australia and a number of other colleges across the UK.

The governors' statement read: "The governing body of Ludlow College is delighted to announce that Jonathan Davis, currently acting principal, is now the principal of Ludlow College.
