The incident is believed to have happened in Royal Oak Drive, Leegomery on March 22.

Police say the cat's owners were left "distraught" after their pet cat came home injured following the shooting.

PC Rob Hughes of West Mercia Police said: "Initially the owners thought the cat had been hit by a car but a trip to the vet revealed, after an X-ray, two pellets still inside the cat.

"This has been distressing to the owners as the cat is part of the family and is known to be friendly.

"It's appalling that someone would injure an animal."

The cat called Beau, is still in a "poorly state", according to West Mercia Police.

It is unknown what the motive for the shooting was but the police are keen to speak to anyone who has any information that might reveal the identity of the perpetrator.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting crime reference number 0342S 220317.
