A complaint has been made that Barrie Hawkyard's sentence was unduly lenient after the 68-year-old was found guilty of abusing three children and a woman.

The case of the former Greater Manchester Police officer, of Brownhills, Market Drayton, has been referred to the Court of Appeal by Attorney General Jeremy Wright.

The case is scheduled to be heard in September.

Hawkyard was convicted in July of eight historic sexual assaults.
