New bid to trace Newport bank raid suspect
Police have released new CCTV images of a man who robbed a Newport bank casually walking along the town's busy High Street.
The images show the man, wearing sunglasses, a dark jacket and blue jeans, walking past The Barley pub minutes before he struck at the Britannia bank.
At about 11.20am last Saturday a cashier at the Britannia branch was threatened and handed over a significant quantity of cash to the man who appeared to be holding a handgun.
The cashier filled a carrier bag with money and the man then left the bank, walking back on to High Street.
He is described as white, in his 30s, of a slim build and was either balding or had closely cropped hair.
Detective Inspector Billy Scott, said today: "We are now one week on from this incident and we would once again like to ask for help from the public as we try to identify the man captured in the new CCTV images we have released.
"It is important we trace this man as soon as we can so anyone who believes they may recognise him is asked to contact us as soon as possible."
Police are keen to speak to anyone who saw the man either before or after the robbery, as well as anyone in the bank at the time.
Call police on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
