Thieves forced patio doors at a home in Pave Lane, near Chetwynd Aston, Newport, on Tuesday between 5.15pm and 5.50pm.

Once inside the house they then carried out a thorough search of several rooms before escaping with a large number of items, mostly men's jewellery.

The items stolen include a gold signet ring engraved with the initials IDS, a plain gold wedding band, a gold curb-type chain, a gold figaro-type chain, a gold coloured Rotary bracelet watch, a silver chain bracelet, a silver ring and two gold sovereigns. A Panasonic digital camera, a black Adidas wallet containing about 50 US dollars and a black iPod Nano were also taken. The total value of the stolen items is thought to be several thousand pounds.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the Pave Lane area on Tuesday evening, or anyone who may know where any of the stolen property can now be found.

Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen an unfamiliar blue car – possibly with a G registration plate – in the area at around the time of the break-in.
