Haul of cigarettes and jewellery taken in Telford raids
Thieves have struck across parts of Telford & Wrekin making off with hauls of cigarettes, jewellery and electrical goods.
In one raid thousands of pounds of cigarettes were stolen when up to three people broke into the Co-operative store in Newport.
The thieves used tools to cut wire mesh at the back of the store before forcing open a window to get into the shop in Baddleys Court, off High Street, between 10.15pm and 11pm, police said.
Large quantities of cigarettes and tobacco were thrown into a sack which one of the thieves was carrying.
Police spokesman Chris Ammonds said the raid was caught on CCTV cameras.
He said: "CCTV shows some very dark silhouettes and as many as three individuals during the course of the break-in.
"One was carrying a very large bag and the cigarettes were taken in this.
"It could be several thousand pounds of cigarettes and about £500 damage was caused.
"Forensic officers attended the scene and carried out work."
The store was closed this morning while police examined the damage.
In a separate raid thieves stole four army medals from a house in Telford.
They also took a black Samsung LCD TV, an Xbox 360 Elite with two controllers, a red Nintendo 3DS, a 17inch black Samsung laptop computer and a number of pieces of jewellery including a Pandora charm bracelet with three charms.
Thieves broke into the property in Hollinswood on Saturday.
Two further burglaries in Much Wenlock were reported over the weekend which are thought to be linked.
Officers are now appealing for information about break-ins in Walton Avenue and Oakfield Park.
