In the last six months, 21 residents from the borough have found employment as part of the Job Box scheme, which is half way through its year-long life.

The scheme was started to support people in Telford & Wrekin in finding a job, through one-to-one training and numerous employment classes.

Employment in a variety of job areas has been made possible through the project, including manufacturing, health and social care and retail.

Participants attended group sessions about CV writing and interview skills, as well as one-to-one support through into the first months of employment.

The funding the initiative offers also helps remove barriers such as specific job training or clothing needed to access particular jobs.

Veolia, the borough's recycling and waste contractor has given £5,000 to the initiative as part of the added value within its contract with Telford & Wrekin Council, which sees the company give a total of £25,000 to the community every year.

Marie Blake, from Job Box, said: "A lady who participated in the training was in her 50s and was concerned that her age may be a barrier to gaining a job.

"She was supported to create a CV on the computer and develop interview skills and one-to-one support gave her the confidence to attend job events, approach employers and apply for jobs.

"She has now successfully gained employment in retail and is really grateful of the help she received."

Steve Mitchell, area director for Veolia, said: "We are delighted that the money given to Job Box is already having such a positive impact only halfway through the project.

"We are also receiving good feedback that the rest of the £25,000 given to the community this year is adding value in the borough."
