Thousands of people flocked to Nantwich for the town's show and international cheese show.

The crowds were welcomed back to the Nantwich International Show after it was cancelled last year due to poor weather. But the sun shone for their return and visitors turned out in force to take part in the festivities yesterday. Show organisers hailed the event a huge success and said they were pleased to welcome back the public.

Richard Paul, chairman, said: "Everybody seemed to be happy. We were all delighted, everyone came together on the day and everyone enjoyed it.

"It's been a vintage year. We had a fantastic turn out.

"It was great to see the public again, we did miss them last year. All the stalls were stripped bare, there wasn't a piece of cheese left."

Among the visitors to the showground were a number of people from Shropshire.

Bruce Gatt, managing director of Adderley Garage in Market Drayton, had a stall at the event to promote his business.

Mr Gatt said he had attended the event every year for the past four years and said it was a "good show".

"We have had a lot of interest," he said.

"It's a good day out as well, even though it's hard work."

Louise Steele, proprietor of Barlow Nurseries, Newport, had a stall at the event selling some of her stock.

She said: "It's a good show because a lot of people are very interested in plants and they want to speak to the owner direct.

"They want actual information from me as the grower. I've been coming for about 10 years. The weather makes the show really.

"I think that because we are an individual nursery, people feel that's very important. We can give advice and we know the products and we have unusual varieties."

Brothers Gareth and Wayne Price, directors of Sleap-based GWR Ltd, were also at the show.

Gareth said: "It's a good day. We have been taking orders, giving quotes and letting people have a look around what we have got to offer.

"A few of our regular customers are here but we pick up new customers as well."
