Wayne Smith, aged 35, grabbed the victim by his neck and “wouldn’t let go”, pushing his mum away as she tried to separate them.

Shrewsbury Crown Court sitting at Telford Justice Centre was told that Smith, who has convictions for battery and threatening behaviour on his record, went downstairs at his mother’s home in Telford after hearing his dad and mum’s partner arguing on May 3 last year.

“He told them to stop the f***ing arguments,” said Danny Smith, prosecuting.

As his mother’s partner went to leave the house to “cool down”, Smith grabbed him by the neck and pushed him up against the wall.

The victim said Smith had a “red face and red eyes” and could “see the anger in his face”.
