Eight per cent increase in Rhayader Town Council’s precept in 2025/26.
Rhayader residents are facing an eight per cent increase in the town council’s precept in 2025/26
Councillors recently agreed to increase the budget by almost £5,000.
It will mean an increase in the cost for a Band D property from £65.48 in 2024/25 to £70.43 this year, which will give the council £65,091.
At the budget setting meeting, Rhayader Mayor Councillor Clare Evans said; “There are lots of uncertainties coming towards us this year such as the future of the library, the situation with the leisure centre and things like Dolgerddon Hall.”
Dolgerddon Hall was damaged by a fire in 2018 and its future is still being discussed.
Councillor James Stuart said the increases in the budget could have been a lot more if the council had not secured grants for the refurbishment of the toilets.
Members agreed the budget and precept.
The town council’s precept is only a small part of the overall council tax bill which will also include Powys County Council, Dyfed Powys Police and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s precepts.
The final bill should arrive during March.
