Councillors voted to pay £9,125 to have floral displays including hanging baskets installed in the town to keep the region looking colourful next summer.

At a meeting of the Services and Facilities committee on Thursday (December 12), councillors considered a quote for the installation and increasing the watering fee charges to local businesses who are provided with a hanging basket by the town council.

It was decided that the watering charge will increase next year for the first time ever - by £5 - to a total cost of £25.

Market Drayton Town Council funded and put up 114 handing baskets, 29 mangers and 35 pole top displays this year, and 37 of the hanging baskets were put up outside local businesses in the town.

Six local companies were contacted regarding the opportunity to quote for the provision and installation of the floral displays next year, and the council has decided to stay with its current providers who they paid £7,404 to for this year's displays.
