Burglar 'propelled by drug use' who smashed up Ludlow deli is jailed
A 'prolific' burglar who launched a devastating raid on a deli has been sent down for 20 months.
Shane Wear went to the Harp Lane Deli, in Ludlow, equipped with an electric drill and wearing a balaclava at 3.30am on October 21, this year.
Shrewsbury Crown Court was told that 46-year-old Wear, who has a criminal record going back to when he was aged just 13, was spotted on a video system after a small window was smashed and police were called.
Alexa Carrier, prosecuting, told the court on Tuesday that Wear, formerly of no fixed abode in Shrewsbury, lowered himself down from a second floor window of the Church Street property where police took hold of his arms and arrested him.
He had pleaded guilty to non-dwelling burglary with intent at Kidderminster Magistrates Court. He appeared for sentencing over a video link from a prison cell.
She said Wear said he was sorry but the owner of the small business in a victim statement said the incident had “made it hard to get up in the morning and carry on.”
