Group mugs up on history
A group in Wellington is getting a real handle on the town's history - by producing a set of mugs reflecting aspects of its past.
The trio of designs are being sold to promote and raise money for Wellington History Group and feature the town's crest, a view over the town and The Wrekin in 1824, and Wellington railway station as it was in 1849. They are being produced for the group by Stephen Handley of Forge in Crown Street, Wellington.
"It is like a community shop, selling all sorts of things, and they do a range of mugs themselves," said group member Allan Frost, who provided the images used on the mugs.
"We thought these would be ideal to sell for group funds. They cost a fiver."
One of the range, with the crest design, has been available for around two months and has already proven popular. The complete range is being launched for sale at the group's stall at Wellington Midsummer Fair on June 10, and will thereafter be on sale at the group's regular public talks.
Allan has already performed a full "road test."
"I was given a sample and it's been in my study ever since."
