Shrewsbury woman's headshave in memory of father - with video
A woman is hoping to track down a missing family member – by shaving her head.
Amanda Lloyd, 44, had her shoulder length hair cut off in memory of her dad John Ridgeley Mills who died of bowel cancer at the age of 72 in March.
But while she is raising money for Cancer Research, a charity close to her father's heart and one which has inspired her to change careers from being a support worker to training to become a nurse on an oncology ward, she is hoping to fulfil one of her father's dying wishes – to find his half sister.
"I last saw her about 30 years ago at my grandfather's funeral," said Amanda.
"Her name is Joanne Griffiths and she would be in her 60s now. The last address we have for her is in Battlefield, Shrewsbury. I would just really like to get back in touch with her."
Amanda had her head shaved at Lads and Dads in Butcher Row, Shrewsbury, yesterday.
"They asked me if I wanted it taken down to a grade one and I said it had to be completely bald," she said.
Amanda's dad, a self-employed builder, was born and grew up in Shrewsbury but later moved to Ireland.
He was well known for riding motorbikes and competed in the Manx TT Races.
"Everyone knew him because of the bikes," said Amanda. "He had many friends in the town and even though he moved away he was very proud of his Shrewsbury links."
Amanda can be contacted by emailing her here.
