Four to battle for Keith Barrow's Oswestry seat on Shropshire Council
Four people have put their names forward to compete for the Shropshire Council seat held by the authority's former leader Keith Barrow.
Carl Hopley for Labour, Duncan Kerr of the Green Party, Christopher Schofield of the Conservatives, and Amanda Jane Woof of the Liberal Democrats will stand for election for the Oswestry South seat.
Mr Barrow stepped down as both council and Conservatives leader and and as a councillor on December 4, saying his motivation had wavered and that fresh eyes and energy were needed for the challenges ahead.
He has since become the commercial director at newly-launched Oswestry agency BH Inspire.
Gareth Proffitt, spokesman for Shropshire Council and also on behalf of the election division, said: "Any new elector wishing to register to vote in this by-election must submit an application, written or online, to the returning officer no later than January 19.
"The deadline to register for a new postal vote, change an existing postal vote or change an existing postal-proxy vote is 5pm on January 20 and the deadline to register for a new proxy vote or change an existing proxy vote is 5pm on January 27."
Electors will go to the polls to choose their new representative on February 4.
