Molly Casey, from Cheswardine, was shopping in Market Drayton when she fell in love with an art nouveau spelter lamp at vintage shop Allsorts on High Street.

On her latest visit to the shop a man, who wishes to remain anonymous, overheard Molly telling staff about the lamp and how she could not afford it.

The man left the shop and returned later with £50, saying he wanted the lady to have the lamp, although he didn't want to leave his name.

Jane Peake, owner of Allsorts, said: "Molly had been to the shop a few times to look at the lamp.

"She sadly could not find the money for it and each week she came into the shop hoping it would still be there.

"On her latest visit a gentleman customer overheard her telling the shop manager the story of the lamp and how much she admired it and would love to own it but this time of the year with children she couldn't afford it.

"The man left the shop returning later with the money for the lamp, saying he had been reading about random acts of kindness and wanted the lady to have the lamp.

"Molly was overwhelmed when she was given the lamp."

Jill Stanwick-Wright, manager of Allsorts, said the story was "remarkable".

She added: "The lamp could not have gone to a nicer home. Molly is such a lovely person."
