Blast-off for Shrewsbury boy, 6, as he wins family trip to NASA
A six-year-old Shropshire boy is preparing to blast off on a trip to NASA after winning a design competition.
Joe Biddulph came up with the winning entry as he filled in some competitions while his mum Emma tried to get over a bout of flu.
The Oxon Primary School pupil, from Bicton Heath, near Shrewsbury, was left to his own devices and along with his sister Grace, 10, he tried his luck at entering Marks & Spencer's invention competition.
Joe 's inspired entry – Walkie Talkie Trousers – impressed so much that he walked off with the top prize of a trip to Florida and dinner with an astronaut.
His mum Emma, a 36-year-old speech therapist, said: "It really captured his imagination and he spent a long time on his entry. He told me that he had come up with the idea of the walkie talkie trousers because the playground can seem so big that he would need them to be able to keep in touch with his friends.
"He also said that children wearing the trousers would be able to tell their mummies they were okay, which was really cute."
Joe and his family will be jetting off to Florida in February. They have a trip to NASA lined up and will be spending some quality time with a real life astronaut.
"We were not looking at going to Florida any time soon, so to have won this is an amazing opportunity," said Emma.
